NYU &Teachers College, Columbia University SIG Networking Event
Thursday, October 4, 2012
The Networking & Mixer event was co-hosted by the NYU and Teachers College, Columbia University SIGs and was held on Wednesday, September 26th from 6:30 to 8:30PM at NYU Pless Hall, Washington Square South, 1st floor lounge.
Aspiring L&D professionals, graduate-level university students in the field, alumni, and ATD NY colleagues, together with the highly regarded academics, Professor Bridget O'Connor of NYU and Dr. Lyle Yorks of Teachers College, Columbia University, all networked together celebrating the joint initiative of 2 leading institutions, NYU and Columbia University and the forming of the NYU and Teachers College, Columbia University SIGs (the Higher Education SIG) - for ATD NY. The Teachers College, Columbia University SIG was represented by its new co-chairs, Jody Barto and Amy Lakusiewicz, both graduate students in Adult Learning and Leadership at Teachers College. It was a great time to share ideas about L&D trends, best practices, and opportunities in the L&D community over refreshments in a casual setting. Everyone participated in a very friendly game of "getting to know you" BINGO! 2 Students won the BINGO game and each received one year free ATD NY Chapter Student Membership!
The atmosphere at this event was highly energetic and enthusiastic. The academics were thrilled at the "potential of collaboration" that exists for joint efforts. Students and alumni of both universities sounded very optimistic about the "possibilities that exist going forward" and expressed interest in getting involved in chapter activities. Patrick Dail, ATD NY Chapter President, was present at this event and conveyed special greetings to the attendees that emphasized the importance of student membership to the future of the NY Chapter.
The NYU SIG gave ATD NY chapter members a "preview" earlier this year by facilitating a joint event with Columbia University. Members received a special invite to the "Spring Leadership Summit", organized by Jody Barto, at Teachers College, Columbia University. This special event was held on Tues. March 27th at Teachers College, with Brigadier General Timothy E. Trainor, Ph.D., the Dean of the Academic Board at West Point and COL Donna Brazil, Ph.D. who is an Academy Professor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences at USMA. The two, a real life married couple, led participants in a dynamic and thought provoking presentation that outlined the renown Leadership Development program at West Point.
The SIG is very pleased to introduce Teachers College, Columbia University SIG into our ATD NY community and is looking forward to hosting many stimulating events together in the future.
