September Chapter Event: Coaching Practices for Leaders: How Avon is Achieving Its Goals

Coaching, as a role, capability and area of expertise, can map to all levels of the ATD Competency Model and is critical for learning leaders to understand. Participants joined us at this month's ATD NY join Monthly Chapter Event and Coaching SIG meeting to learn how Avon is building this competency among leaders at all levels with its new coaching initiative, Coaching Practices for Leaders (CPL), which has already reached more than 250 participants. The program was designed working with Lee Hecht Harrison, has now run for approximately 18 months in North America and will extend internationally. The program was designed for individual managers to be better equipped to provide both feed-back and feed-forward to their direct reports and will help managers be more prepared to hold difficult conversations in order to improve performance at both the individual and team levels.

Senior Manager for Avon North America Talent Management and Training, Esther Margalit, walked us through how the program was designed and how it is delivered, sharing experiences from her role managing the process. Facilitator Kathleen Donnatin, Analyst on Avon's North America Talent Management and Training Team, shared information about her experience and the program's social media/e-learning portal. Diane Abbriano, Regional Lead for Avon North America Compensation and Gail Scripko, Senior Manager of Digital Communications, discussed their stories as program participants, highlighting the value they are deriving from the program.
