Robert Hellmann
Co-Chair, Career Development SIG  |

Robert Hellmann is President of Hellmann Career Consulting, where he provides career and executive coaching services as well as workshops and consulting on Presentations, Pitches and LinkedIn.  He’s a certified Five O'Clock Club Senior Career and Executive Coach as well as an adjunct Instructor at New York University.

Rob delivers over 50 seminars annually to diverse organizations including Fortune 500 companies, Institutions of Higher Education and associations. He also runs weekly career strategy groups for c-level executives. In his private coaching practice, Rob has helped hundreds of individuals to achieve career and presentation success.

Rob's background includes 20 years of experience in Organizational Development and Marketing at employers including American Express, JP Morgan Chase, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  He has developed career workshops for higher-education including Columbia University, Harvard Business School, New York University, Fordham University, and more.

Rob’s insights and commentary have appeared in The New York Times, Forbes, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, NBC News and ABC News. He also authored the books Peak Presentations: Engage Your Audience, Get RESULTS! and Advanced LinkedIn: for your Job Search Business & Career.

Rob served on the ATD NYC Board as VP of Professional Development in 2015, and chaired the Chapter Webinars Series in 2014.

Rob enjoys singing, songwriting, and playing guitar, and is an avid cyclist. He lives in New York City.

Joyce Grillo
Chair, Coaching SIG

Joyce has 25 years of practical experience as an Executive Coach and Leader and Talent Development Consultant working both internally and in a consulting capacity for Fortune 500 companies in the US and globally. 


Joyce has a broad and varied background that includes: leading large culture change projects; developing and delivering culture and values workshops; 1:1 and group coaching sessions for global leaders; consulting to develop an integrated talent management process; and creating and implementing a career development program for high potentials.

In addition to being Co-chair of ATDNY’s Coaching Special Interest Group, she serves as Co-Chair of ATD’s Group and Peer Coaching Supervision Groups. 

She graduated from New York University with an M.A. in Social Psychology, B.A. in Psychology and English Literature.  She has an advanced certification in Organizational and Group Dynamics from the William Alansan White Institute in New York.

Some of Joyce’s certifications include: Immunity to Change, MBTI Step II, Hogan (MVPI, HDS, HPI), FIRO-B, Korn Ferry’s Voices 360, Choices Learning Agility, CPI-260, EQ-i, Learning Styles Inventory, Thomas Kilmann Conflict Inventory and Change Style Indicator.

Barbara Phillips
Co-Chair, Career Development SIG  |

Barbara is a multi-faceted talent management consultant, transition and executive coach, trainer and facilitator with 20 years of Human Resources and Organization Development experience in world class, global organizations.  

As a professional certified coach, Barbara focuses on career transitions (what’s next, job search strategy, branding, networking, interviewing, etc.)  She also coaches recently outplaced executives in mid-life and/or on the cusp of retirement to help them plan for their “Third Act” (Encore Career and retirement transition).  Her clients span Fortune 500 companies, non-profits and private clients. 

At American Express and Pfizer, she specialized in company-wide talent management, talent reviews, leadership development, competency frameworks and executive succession planning.  She designed and implemented strategies for identifying and developing high potential leaders to build bench strength for critical organization roles.  Barbara also designed and launched executive mentoring programs, candidate slating and career/development roundtables. 

Barbara delivered end-to-end HR and OD services to multiple businesses in client-facing roles to develop individual and organization capability: performance management, change management, team effectiveness, talent and leadership development, career and succession planning, feedback and coaching, mentoring, organization effectiveness, diversity & inclusion, employee engagement and compensation. 

She earned a B.A. in Biology from Williams College, and an M.A. in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University.  She is certified as a Professional Coach through the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) and the International Coach Federation (ICF). 

Personal interests include: acting and improvisation, public speaking, photography, “off-the-beaten track” travel, bicycling, yoga, and personal growth and development.

Mark Cassetta
Co-Chair, eLearning SIG  |

For over 15 years, Mark Cassetta has enjoyed a career as a learning & development professional with a focus on the design and implementation of digital learning solutions.
Mark started his career in L&D as a Microsoft Certified Trainer.  With specific expertise in eLearning, he has held roles as an instructional designer, project manager, training leader and business director.  His industry experience includes the fields of technology, pharmaceuticals and financial services - including 11 years with Pfizer where he launched an internal “start-up” business within Pfizer’s Animal Health business unit focused on selling eLearning to veterinary professionals for CE credit.
Mark currently leads the learning function for RBC Capital Markets in the US. 
Mark has a B.A. in English from the University of Florida - Gainesville, and an M.A. in Instructional Technology & Media from Teachers College, Columbia University.  He lives with his family in Manhattan.

Andrew Sellon
Co-Chair, eLearning SIG  |

Andrew has been co-chair of the eLearning SIG since 2013, and has been in the learning field for over 15 years.  He keeps busy with his own consulting firm, Sellon Solutions LLC, through which he advises on and creates a wide range of creative learning materials, with a specialty in eLearning.  His client list ranges from small non-profits to Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies.

Prior to starting his own business, Andrew was a key player on MetLife’s Learning & Development team for many years.  His many accomplishments there included acting as primary author for their EasyPath documentation template process, and project managing the final phase of their enterprise-wide PeopleSoft LMS implementation—while also creating over 50 interactive simulations to train associates on the new system.

Andrew is also a professional actor, and offers voiceovers and narration as well as coaching and facilitation.  He recently joined the volunteer talent pool for Learning Ally, an organization providing audiobooks to the visually impaired.  He holds a B.A. cum laude in English and American Literature from Harvard College, and an MFA in Acting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Recent film and TV appearances include Begin Again, The Smurfs, The Blacklist, The Mysteries of Laura, and HBO’s new comedy series, Divorce.  He narrated the audiobook Black Sails, White Rabbits: Cancer Was the Easy Part, which is available on and on

Andrew lives in Westchester, NY with his husband, Tim.

Hal Christensen

Hal Christensen, President of QuickCompetence, provides strategic guidance and solutions to organizations that seek to accelerate their employees' Time to Competence and to sustain that competence over time.

For over 30 years, Hal has been providing performance improvement solutions to organizations of different sizes in the New York Metropolitan area. He has been an advocate for the innovative use of computer technology to augment learning and working, spearheading the initial introduction and growth of both eLearning and Performance Support technologies. His Performance Support solutions have won several awards, and he has frequently been asked to share his Performance Support, eLearning, and instructional design knowledge and experience at national professional conferences.

Hal co-chairs the ATD NYC Special Interest Group on Performance Support/Informal Learning, which he founded in 2012.

Malu Schloss
Co-Chair, Performance Support/Informal Learning SIG |

Malu Schloss is a Relationship Manager with TrainingPros, Inc and a Learning Consultant. She is delighted to serve with Hal as co-chair of the Performance Support/Informal Learning SIG for the second year.


As a Relationship Manager for TrainingPros, Malu collaborates with managers in organizations to identify the best talent for their staffing needs in the areas of learning and technical communication.


As a learning consultant, Malu specializes in instructional and content strategy, design and delivery of custom training, eLearning, performance support and communications, all focused on improving the user or client experience.  Sample engagements include OTG Management, Success Factors, Bank of America, US Trust, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, Marsh, Inc., Thomson Reuters/Lipper, Prudential Insurance and Fordham University.  Previously, Malu was Training/CBT Manager at Dreyfus Corporation and Training Director at Rizal Bank (RCBC) in Makati, Philippines.


Malu has a B.S. in Psychology from the University of the Philippines, M.A. in Social-Industrial Psychology from Ateneo de Manila University and advanced M.S. courses in Instructional Technology from New York Institute of Technology.

Robert Baker
Co-Chair, Talent Development Leaders SIG  |

Bob Baker is Senior Director, Enterprise Training Strategy at Pfizer. In that role he is responsible for developing long- and short-term strategies for improving the learning experience of colleagues through learning principles, standards and technologies.

His 30 years at Pfizer includes sales, marketing research, country and global brand management as well as new product development. In his last role, Bob developed Pfizer's way of marketing that includes the standards of excellence, frameworks, tools and training that colleagues need to be successful. His team has also created a learning ecosystem with its 4,000 members of Pfizer's Commercial Community to accelerate their professional development and collaboration abilities.

Bob has a BA in Economics from the College of William and Mary, and an MBA in Marketing from Rutgers. He lives with his family in Spring Lake, New Jersey where he is active in his local lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.

Elizabeth McGuire
Co-Chair, Talent Development Leaders SIG  |

Liz McGuire is currently employed at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research as the Senior Associate Director of Human Resources. She is supporting the rapid growth of the organization through change organizational development, the introduction coaching, increasing employee engagement and building learning and development opportunities.


She leverages an MA in Human Resources Management, the CPLP certification as well as the Certified Professional Coach designation to support her role as a strategic business partner for The Foundation.

Julie Nickerson

Julie Nickerson is a learning design and development consultant at Global Lab Plus where she creates and facilitates customized programs for team collaboration, leadership development and professional presence.

With over twenty years of leadership experience delivering on strategic business goals while helping individuals and teams increase their personal and professional potential, Julie has worked with various Fortune 50 companies in the consumer goods area.  Applying her background in product and process innovation she now works with a variety of industries, but continues to embrace change, and seek out new tools and best practices for learning and development that incorporate personalization, user experience, and visual learning.

With so many disruptions in L&D she is committed to tracking trends, and sharing a variety of topical ideas and relevant applications with our ATD NYC Chapter.

Julie holds her B.A. in Organizational Behavior and Change from New York University, and is certified to administer and provide coaching for the EQ-i 2.0 Emotional Intelligence assessment.  She lives in New York City.

Mies de Koning MA, MCM, CALC
Chair, SIG

Mies de Koning is an expert in Social and Organizational Learning Methodologies. Fascinated by personal leadership theory and group dynamics Mies started his career as a group therapist in Child Psychiatry. As a Program Director in Higher Education (at Avans University for Applied Sciences in the Netherlands) he led curriculum development and staff for a Bachelor in Socio-Educational work for 10 years. He is committed to lead deep and continuous (group dynamical) change in knowledge intensive (public) institutions. His talent is to design and deliver profoundly participatory processes for Organizational Development and Learning. Mies is a trained Action Researcher and Action Learning Coach. He has two Masters degrees, in Social and Community Studies from De Montfort University (UK) and in Advanced Change Management at the prestigious SIOO Inter-university (NL). 
Currently Mies works as a Partner for Leadership and Organizational Development at the New York Public Library, Astor, Lennox and Tilden foundations. He is focused on leadership and management/organizational development. As a freelance consultant Mies worked for the Dutch Central Bank and Nautadutilh P.C. New York.
